2. Article - Penghilangan ‘The’

A. Sebelum nama-nama tempat kecuali yang telah disebutkan diatas, atau sebelum nama orang.

B. Sebelum abstract noun, kecuali kalau abstract noun tersebut digunakan dalam pengertian tertentu (memiliki makna khusus), seperti:

1.  Men fear death. (abstract noun untuk makna umum)
2. The death of the prime minister left his party without a leader. (abstract noun untuk makna khusus)

C. Setelah noun yang menjadi possessive adjective, dan juga dalam possessive adjective, seperti:

1. The boy's uncle = The uncle of the boy.
2. It is my (blue) book. = It is the (blue) book of mine.

D. Sebelum nama makanan

•  The Scots have porridge for breakfast.

Bandingkan dengan :

• The wedding breakfast was held in her father's house.
  

E. Sebelum nama permainan.

• He plays golf.

F. Sebelum noun yang terdiri dari bagian-bagian tubuh dan barang-barang berupa pakaian, karena noun tersebut biasanya menggunakan possessive adjective, seperti:

1.  Raise your right hand!
2. He took off his coat!

G. Sebelum indefinite plural noun.

1. Women are expected to like babies. (Wanita secara umum)
2. Big hotels all over the world are very much the same.
