Question tag (Pertanyaan Singkat)
Pertanyaan singkat (short question) yang terletak setelah statement (kalimat pertanyaan), imperative (kalimat perintah) dan invitation (kalimat ajakan).
Tujuan dari
question tags yaitu untuk meminta persetujuan pendengar dan juga berfungsi untuk
meminta penegasan pendengar tentang suatu hal yang belum meyakinkan pembicara.

Aturan
Khusus.
1.
Jika
dalam statement terdapat ordinary verb berupa “be” maka gunakan “be” tersebut
dalam tag-nya seperti:
© Mary was there, wasn’t she?
2.
Jika
dalam statement terdapat auxiliary verb, maka gunakan auxiliary dalam tag-nya,
seperti :
© He is riding
motorcycle, isn’t he?
© Ann can’t swim, can she?
3.
Jika
tenses dalam statement berupa simple present (verbal[+]) maka gunakan auxiliary
verb “do/does + not” dalam tag-nya, seperti:
© Peter smokes, doesn’t he?
© We invite you, don’t we?
4.
Jika
tenses dalam statement berupa simple past (verbal[+]) maka gunakan auxiliary
verb “did + not” dalam tag-nya, seperti:
© Peter helped you, didn’t he?
5.
Jika
dalam statement terdapat “I am” maka gunakan “aren’t I” dalam tag-nya, seperti:
© I am happy, aren’t I?
6.
Apabila
subject statement berupa expletive “there”, maka gunakan “there” tersebut dalam
tag-nya, seperti:
© There weren’t any problems, were there?
7.
Jika
dalam statement terdapat negative words, maka tag-nya harus berupa kalimat
positive (+) .
Certain word : never, no,
seldom, rarely, hardly, scarcely, barely, …etc.
Certain subject : nothing,
nobody, no one.
e.g. :
© He never comes here, does he?
© Nothing was said, was it?
8.
Jika
dalam statement terdapat imperative (+)/(-), maka gunakan “will you” /”won’t
you” dalam tagnya, seperti:
© Close the door, will you?
© Don’t be noisy, won’t you?
9.
Jika
dalam statement terdapat ajakan “let’s”, maka gunakan “shall we” dalam tag-nya,
seperti:
© Let’s go together, shall we?
