Adjective (Kata Sifat)

Adjective adalah kata yang digunakan untuk menjelaskan kata benda (Noun)/kata ganti(pronoun), dan juga untuk membatasi makna kata benda/kata ganti.

 Kinds of Adjective

A. Descriptive Adjective
     kata sifat yang melukiskan atau menggambarkan kondisi kata benda (noun) yang dijelaskan.
     1. Qualitiy (Kualitas)          : honest, good, bad, beautiful, ... etc.
     2. Character (Karakter)      : kind, polite, friendly, ... etc.
     3. Siza (Ukuran)                 : big, small, little, long, short, high, ... etc.
     4. Age (Umur)                    : old, new, young, ancient, ... etc.
     5. Temperature (Suhu)      : hot, cold, warm, ... etc.
     6. Participle             
         - Present Participle        : amazing, boring, interesting, ... etc.
         - Past Participle             : amazed, bored, interested, ... etc.
     7. Shape (Bentuk)              : circle, round, square, triangle, ... etc.
     8. Color (Warna)                : blue, black, green, red, white, ... etc.
     9. Origin (Asal)/Location  : Indonesia, Bukittinggi, Sumatera Barat, ... etc.

B. Limiting Adjective
     Kata sifat yang digunakan untuk membatasi noun, baik dari segi jumlah/posisi.

     1. Exclamatory Adjective   
         Kata sifat yang digunakan untuk menunjukkan perasaan yang kuat seperti rasa kagum atau
         heran.
                  What +Noun/Noun Phrase!
                  e.g. :
                           - What a pity!
                           - What a smart boy!
                           - What a beautiful girl!
     
     2. Demonstrative Adjective
         Kata tunjuk yang diikuti oleh kata bendanya.

                  This/That + Singular Noun.
                  e.g. :
                           - She has this novel.
                           - That book is yours.

                  These/Those + Plural Noun
                  e.g :
                           - I borrow these pencils.
                           - Those pens are mine.
             

     3. Articles
         Kata sandang yang diletakkan didepan unsur benda, yakni 'a', 'an', 'the'.
               
                  'a/an' (Indefinite Article)
                  e.g. :
                           - a hat                  - a woman             - a university
                           - an apple            - an hour                - an uncle

                  'the' (The definite article)
                  e.g. :
                           - the eart
                           - the moon
                           - the girl in blue
       
     4. Possessive Adjective
         Kata sifat yang menunjukkan kepemilikan .
          *From Pronoun : My, Your, Our, his, her, their, its.
            e.g. :
                  - My school
                  - Your hair.
                  - Our teacher
          *From Noun (Genitive)
            e.g. :
                  - Hendra's friend.
                  - Amir's wife
                  - Lily's pen.
       

     5. Indefinite Quantity
         Hitung/jumlah yang tidak tentu yang difungsikan sebagai adjective.
                  - Some (Beberapa)               
                  - Any             
                  - A lot of (Banyak)         
                  - Many             
                  - Much             
                  - A few             
                  - Few               
                  - A Little/Little
                  - Plenty of (lebih dari cukup)
                  - Several (Beberapa/Sejumlah)
                  - A number of
                  - A Great deal of
                  - A great amount of
                  - More (Banyak)
                  - Most (Kebanyakan)
                  - All (Semua)

     6. Interogative Adjective
         Kata tanya yang digunakan sebagai kata sifat (Adjective), yaitu what, whose dan which.
                  - What + Noun
                  - Whose + Noun
                  - Which + Noun

         Hitungan yang difungsikan sebagai adjective.
                  - Ordinal Number (Bilangan bertingkat)
                       First                           : 1^st 
                       Second                      : 2^nd 
                       Third                         : 3rd
                       Fourth                       : 4^th
                       Hundredth                 : 100^th
                       One hundred first      : 101^st

                  - Cardinal Number (Bilangan pokok)
                       Zero                       : 0
                       One                       : 1
                       Two                       : 2
                       Ten                        : 10
                       Thirty                    : 30
                       One hundred and fourty  : 140

                  - Multiple (Bilangan kelipatan)
                       Singel
                       Double
                       Triple

                  - Fractions (Bilangan pecahan)
                       A half                   : ½
                       A third                 : 1/3
                       A fourth               : ¼
                       A quarter             : ¼
                       three-fourth         : ¾
                       Five and a half   : 5 ½
                       Zero point five   : 0.5
